This self-study course is designed to be taken at your convenience, and on your own schedule. You have 90 days to finish the course once you begin.

In an age when technology is the dominant force of change, and complexity is often a measure of innovation, engineers are increasingly faced with the challenge of communicating their ideas to audiences who are outside their scope of knowledge, and who come from communities who have not been well represented among engineers, and have few community leaders from your discipline.

Today, it is more important than ever for engineers to be able to communicate effectively to a variety of audiences. This course provides techniques to transform technical communication to non-technical communication.

After this course, you will be able to:
- Recognize the importance of effective communication to different ages, professions, and industries
- Describe how to present technical information to non-technical audiences
- Describe how to assess and prepare for different types of audiences and speaking environments
- Identify devices such as analogies, humor, tone, transitions, and style
- Explain how to research, plan, and write presentations
- Discuss how to communicate to the mass media
