Case 1: Adult Woman With Elevated Protein

Access Activity

Overview / Abstract:

The rapidly increasing number of therapeutic options available for the management of multiple myeloma presents a significant challenge for hematologist-oncologists. Achieving optimal patient outcomes requires identifying the disease as early as possible and determining the best combination of agents for each patient based on a careful assessment of the biologic and genetic features of his or her disease.

In Case 1, you will meet 58-year-old Donna Medford, who was referred to the Multiple Myeloma Virtual Institute by her primary care doctor after routine testing found elevated blood protein levels. Initially, Donna is asymptomatic, but over the course of two years she experiences fatigue, and additional symptoms. In this activity, your objectives will be to determine the extent of and prognosis for Donna’s disease, interpret all lab results, and formulate an appropriate treatment plan. This activity also features the Resource Library, which houses tools that can help clinicians more effectively manage patients with multiple myeloma.

Donna’s case continues and can be reviewed in Multiple Myeloma Virtual Institute – Case 2: 60-Year-Old Woman Following Induction Therapy for Active MM, which is available for additional CME credit at education.redmeded.com.
