Overview / Abstract:

Become familiar with design parameters for wind loads that are applicable to the methodologies permitted in the Florida Building Code, Section 1609.

With the adoption of the 2010 Florida Building Code, and previous 2001, 2004, and 2007 versions, change has occurred with regard to the design, construction, and inspection of buildings now being built.

These changes include the following:

1. Building officials and plan reviewers are looking for more information on the plans and in the specifications. In many cases, calculations are being requested from the designer to substantiate structural details shown on the plans.
2. Field inspectors are requiring more information/detail.
3. The building industry is becoming more compliance-oriented.

Wind Load Design Criteria familiarizes practitioners with the design parameters for wind loads that are applicable to the methodologies permitted in the 2010 Edition of the Florida Building Code, effective March 15, 2012 and ASCE Standard 7-10.
