Program Summary:
Test yourself, brush up, or just do this review course for fun! Dosage Calculation Review is designed to help nursing professionals enhance their dosage calculation skills. This two-credit course covers the calculation of oral, intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intravenous medications for both pediatric and adult populations. Mathematical skills will be reviewed and interactive practice problems will be included after each module to reinforce the math skills needed to correctly calculate physician ordered dosages. This course is presented in a multimedia format that is entertaining and informative.

Certificate of Completion will be available immediately on-line upon successful completion by the participant.

Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this activity participants will be able to:

-Recognize the relative value of decimals and fractions.
-Solve equations with whole numbers, decimals, and fractions.
-Recognize medical and equivalent abbreviations.
-Identify metric and apothecary measures.
-Convert metric measures within the metric system.
-Convert metric measures to common household equivalents.
-Read drug labels by identifying drug name (trade and generic) and drug strength.
-Calculate the correct dosages according to the physician orders and label information.
-Administer medications safely by the identified administration routes, PO, intramuscular, intravenous, and subcutaneous.
-Identify the correct route, medication, and calculation for both the pediatric and adult populations.

Author Information:
Janice M. Polizzi, RN, BSN is currently employed as an Assistant Professor in Nursing at the Adventist University of Health Sciences. Her academic area of expertise is Obstetrics and Gynecologic nursing. She had been teaching health promotion classes in the community for eight years. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Nursing and participating in ongoing nursing research with Florida Hospital Healthcare System.

Carolyn P. Ramsey, PhD, ARNP is currently an Associate Professor of Nursing - Level I Coordinator and Pre-Nursing Advisor for Adventist University of Health Sciences. Her area of expertise is critical care and pediatric nursing.
