Overview / Abstract:

Join AAAAI for a one-day hands-on course to improve your knowledge of atopic and contact dermatitis and practice the skills needed to diagnose and counsel patients. As increasing numbers of patients with allergic and immunologic skin diseases seek care from allergist/immunologists, it's more essential than ever that physicians and allied health providers are able to accurately diagnose these patients.

Eczema and Contact Dermatitis in the Allergy/Immunology Practice will include hands-on patch testing practice in addition to a variety of lectures provided by expert allergists and dermatologists. Covered topics will include:

•Differential Diagnosis of Eczemas and Itch
•Contact Dermatitis by Region: Hand, Face and Generalized
•Common Allergen Review: Fragrances, Preservatives, Corticosteroids, and More
•Metal Implant Allergy: Orthopedic, Cardiac, Dental, and Gynecologic
•Pearls and Pitfalls of Patch Testing
•Patient Presentations, Patch Test Reactions, Reading and Scoring
•Patient Counseling: Product Advice, Determining Relevance, and Counseling Avoidance

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
•Identify the manifestations and differential diagnosis of eczema
•Identify common allergens that can trigger allergic and immunologic responses in the skin
•Employ effective clinical evaluation techniques to identify patients with suspected allergic contact dermatitis
•Discuss the clinical relevance of patch test reactions
•Demonstrate appropriate and effective patch testing methods for the diagnosis and management of allergic and irritant contact dermatitis
