Wound Care Update

Access Activity

Overview / Abstract:

Conference Overview:
Chronic wounds pose a significant burden to both patients and health care systems. More than 6 million people in the US live with chronic wounds, and up to 25 percent of patients with diabetes will develop a foot ulcer in their lifetime. The rapidly increasing incidence of conditions that can lead to chronic wounds, such as diabetes, has necessitated comprehensive and evidence-based wound care practices.

To reduce the health risks associated with wounds—including amputation and impaired quality of life—and excessive wound care costs, primary care clinicians need current training for diagnosing, treating and preventing wounds. Wound Care Update will explore how care teams can use the latest multidisciplinary information to provide care and optimize patients’ health outcomes. Experts in physical therapy, nutrition and other fields integral to wound care will offer interactive workshops, hands-on demonstrations, case presentations and time for interaction with participants.

Educational Objectives:
Following this learning activity, participants will be able to:
• Apply strategies for practical wound evaluation
• Identify evidence-based methods for treating and preventing wounds
• Implement appropriate use of antibacterial therapy in wound management
