This text-based interview is the second of a four-part series. Dr. Priscilla Hsue and Dr. E. Turner Overton discuss the multidisciplinary management of CVD risk in HIV-positive individuals. Discussion topics include risk assessment tools, and collaboration across the care team, including the role of PCPs and specialist referrals. HIV-infected individuals have an increased risk of CVD. Research has identified characteristics of HIV infection itself that influence CVD risks, yet their precise roles and potential as therapeutic targets are unclear. Initiation of ART and management of traditional CVD risk factors are paramount to reducing risk, but additional strategies are needed.
