A Deep Dive into Statin Therapy for HIV-infected Individuals

Overview / Abstract:

In this text-based interview, Dr. Hsue and Dr. Drozd discuss statin therapy in HIV-infected individuals. Discussion topics include lipid targets and guidelines recommendations, preventing drug-drug interactions, and managing potential adverse events. The faculty will also discuss the ongoing REPRIEVE clinical trial that is investigating the use of statin therapy to prevent vascular events in HIV-infected individuals.

This activity is designed for cardiologists, infectious disease specialists, primary care physicians, and other clinicians interested in the management of patients with HIV-related cardiovascular disease.

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
• Outline primary and secondary preventive strategies for patients with HIV and CVD risk factors
• Discuss the use of statins in HIV-infected individuals
• Formulate ART regimens that account for potential drug-drug interactions and CVD-related adverse effects of ART
