Case Studies in Screening for and Addressing Depression in HIV Positive Clients: A STEP-HIV Initiative

Overview / Abstract:

This webinar is the latest in a series of Special Training for Effective Providers in HIV (STEP-HIV) initiatives developed by ACTHIV and the American Academy of CME, Inc. to promote HIV workforce development through education for healthcare professionals who are in training or who are in practice but are new to HIV medicine.

After participating in the activity, learners should be better able to:
1. Explain major depression and the distinction between demoralization and depression
2. Discuss the increased risk for depression in patients with HIV
Identify the interactions between depression and other psychiatric co-morbidities in those with HIV
3. Explore strategies the healthcare team can utilize to better identify and address depression in their patients with HIV
