The Next Evolution in Cancer Therapy: 2016

Access Activity

Overview / Abstract:

As the number of cancer therapies grow at unprecedented rates, it is hard for the general pharmacist to keep up to date. Many of these drugs are oral and, while the pharmacist may not directly work with these agents, they need to be aware of their toxicities as well as interactions with other drugs. This presentation will give a general overview of the newly approved drugs within the last year, where they fall within the armamentarium of cancer-fighting agents and important information that the pharmacist should be aware of to provide care to patients.

Upon completion of this activity, the participant should be able to:

-Identify newly approved cancer agents within the past year
-Recognize new targets and avenues of cancer therapy
-Describe potential drug interactions or handling precautions of which the pharmacist should be aware

This educational activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of pharmacists practicing in various settings, specifically those who encounter cancer patients.

MCPHS University is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education.
