Urgent Care: An Old Concept in the New Millennium

Access Activity

Overview / Abstract:

Audience:
This program is designed for primary care physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners. Nurses and other members of the care team may also find it beneficial.

Conference Overview:
The growth and development of urgent care medicine has increased over the last 3 decades due to frustration with long wait times in primary care clinics and in emergency centers for non-emergency care. Also, high deductible health insurance plans and increased out-of-pocket expenses are prompting patients to seek more convenient and affordable health care options.

As clinicians on the “front lines” of medicine, urgent care clinicians need to proficiently evaluate and care for any patient who walks into an urgent care center or clinic. To respond quickly and definitively in urgent situations, urgent care clinicians also need to enhance their critical-care thinking and decision-making skills.

Urgent Care: An Old Concept in the New Millennium will educate clinicians on current best practices for outpatient triage of acute and chronic illnesses and injuries, and complex or unusual conditions. Experts will present practical information via lectures and small-group workshops.

Educational Objectives:
Following this learning activity, participants will be able to:
- Apply evidence-based strategies in diagnosing and managing common medical conditions seen in urgent care settings
- Manage patients successfully, using efficient triage to - Discuss current best practices for outpatient triage of acute and chronic illnesses and injuries, and complex or unusual conditions
