Hospital and home care based pharmacists often compound parenteral nutrition (PN) solutions for their patients. The Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy requires that pharmacists engaged in sterile products compounding obtain additional education specific to this area in order to maintain their licensure. This course will provide specific information for the safe compounding of parenteral nutrition solutions, considered one the most complex types of parenteral admixtures that most pharmacists who do sterile products compounding will encounter and how the revised USP 797 regulations will impact PN compounding. Learning Objectives Discuss the safety issues associated in the parenteral nutrition (PN) compounding process Describe how knowledge deficits can lead to PN compounding errors List the factors that can lead to calcium-phosphate precipitation in a PN solution Understand where errors occur depending upon the method of PN compounding used |
