Community Practice Connections™: Leveraging Phenotypic Data in Severe Asthma Control—Are You Individualizing Your Patient’s Treatment?

Access Activity

Overview / Abstract:

Target Audience

This educational program is directed toward all pulmonologists, allergists, and primary care physicians. Nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other health care providers who treat patients with asthma are also welcome to participate.

Program Overview

Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease, with distinct phenotypes, that results from a complex interplay between genetic and environmental factors. Identifying individual patients’ asthma phenotype is becoming increasingly important to help select an optimal targeted therapy that aims to control symptoms and reduce the risk of future exacerbations. This Community Practice Connections™ program provides an in-depth review of important considerations for asthma diagnosis, treatment, and patient engagement. This unique and engaging multimedia activity is ideal for the community-based clinician and focuses on the practical aspects of managing patients with severe asthma, putting recent clinical trial data into clinical context.

Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this educational activity, you should be better prepared to:

Discuss the role of eosinophils in the spectrum of eosinophilic asthma phenotypes
Evaluate the efficacy and safety of therapies for patients with eosinophilic asthma
Develop strategies for shared decision-making and asthma action plans with patients affected by eosinophilic asthma
