The Role of Race in Health Care Delivery in IBD

Access Activity

Overview / Abstract:

Although IBD is more common in non-Hispanic Whites compared to other racial groups, there is a disproportionately higher ratio of hospitalizations, surgery, and IBD-related mortality among non-Hispanic African Americans compared with other racial groups. This fact, in addition to the rising prevalence of IBD in North America and the estimate that 54% of the U.S. population will be comprised of minority populations by 2050, underscores the need for high-quality treatment available to racial and ethnic minority groups.

In this CMEOCast podcast, expert faculty discuss variations in IBD presentation in different racial groups, disparities in health care use, and approaches to mitigate inequality.
