This course will review clinically important information regarding the management of cardiac and vascular diseases affecting patients with cancer and cancer survivors. The interactive, practice-based format includes case presentations and state-of-the-art lectures in recent and topical developments in this emerging field. The goal is to improve quality, safety and outcomes for patients within the dynamic and interactive educational experience. The current state of knowledge of common cardiovascular complications such as heart failure (HF), myocardial ischemia, hypertension (HTN), thromboembolism, QT prolongation, and bradycardia is associated with frequently used anticancer medications.

Target Audience

This course is designed for clinical cardiologists, heart failure specialists, oncologists, hematologists, internal medicine specialists, and allied health personnel working in cardiology or hematology-oncology areas.

Learning Objectives

Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

  • Identify diagnostic, clinical, and management options in the care of cancer patients with cardiovascular illness.
  • Describe pharmacotherapy for the management strategies in the management of patients with cardiotoxicity.
  • Describe follow-up and clinical care within a specialized cardio-oncology program.
  • Summarize treatment strategies using a case-based approach.
  • Demonstrate a multidisciplinary approach to cardio-oncology patients using current guideline recommendations from ACC, AHA, ESC, ASE and ASCO.

Hands-on Workshop Objective:

  • Identify the practicalities of accurate and valid measurement of cardiac chambers and novel echocardiographic measures for early detection of cardiotoxicity using strain imaging.
