This webinar focuses on caring for patients with epilepsy and provides up-to-date information on the growing number of treatment options. Topics of discussion include indications for vagal nerve stimulation, responsive neurostimulation, and deep brain stimulation, and how each of those compare for specific patients. The hosts also review and discuss a case study.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, the participant should be able to:

  • Discuss the treatment of refractory epilepsy with neurostimulation including Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS), Responsive Neurostimulation (RNS), and Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS).
  • Review the surgical work-up for a patient being considered for neurostimulation.
  • Examine when and why VNS vs. DBS. vs RNS is chosen.
  • Discuss nurse teaching points and clinical pearls related to programming each device.
