In this enduring material, Program Chair Allen C. Ho, MD, FACS, and John W. Kitchens, MD, will focus on the importance of working with diabetic patients and caregivers to create an individualized approach to treatment in an attempt to minimize loss to follow-up. Drs. Ho and Kitchens will also discuss potential solutions to patient compliance issues related to socioeconomics and other factors.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, the participant should be able to:

  • Discuss the benefits of consistent anti-VEGF treatment.
  • Explain why patients with diabetic retinopathy (DR) and diabetic macular edema (DME) are so often lost to follow-up.
  • Execute patient education plans on the importance of frequent DME treatment to improve treatment and exam compliance.
  • Apply best practices and strategies in a cross-disciplinary approach to diabetes management to better manage patients.
