Overview / Abstract:

We would like to thank the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Commission, as well as Jeff Lester- Director of Training Amarillo Police Academy and Scott Huckabee- Director of Training for the Capital Area Regional Law Enforcement Training Academy for their assistance, participation and input for this course.

Of the 29 current Basic Peace Officer Topics (618 training hours), these 7 are specific to Texas. However you are required to pass the same licensing exam as all other applicants, so it is suggested that you study all the topical areas. The topic areas of Arrest, Search, and Seizure; Patrol; and Criminal Investigation are considered to be generic however these areas are important parts of the exam. The entire Basic Peace Officer Course can be found on the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCLEOSE) website,

Code of Criminal Procedure
Penal Code
Alcoholic Beverage Code
Health and Safety Code Controlled Substances Act
Family Code Juvenile Issues
Family Violence and Related Assaultive Offenses
NOTE: Effective January 1, 2014 the passing grade for this course will be raised from 70% to 80%. Any exams taken on or after this date must receive a grade of 80% to pass. Any grades below 80% already in your gradebook after this date will reflect a fail, however those grades will be grandfathered and not prevent you from passing the course or obtaining your certificate. You are encouraged to retake the lesson exams until you obtain a score of at least 80%.
