ACPE - 2015 Sterile Compounding Update REPLAY (for CPS employees only)

Overview / Abstract:

"2015 Sterile Compounding Update REPLAY" provides an update of the USP 797 Chapter for Sterile Compounding as well as discusses lessons learned from recent consultant sterile compounding assessments. This activity was originally presented live for the participants of the 2015 CPS Regional Meetings. It is a continuing pharmacy education (CPE) activity for the health-system PHARMACISTS and TECHNICIANS of CPS and their client facilities.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, the pharmacist will be able to:
1. Identify and expound on key regulations, as well as changes in the level of participation of state, federal, and regulatory bodies responsible for sterile compounding oversight.
2. Explain the definition and significance of the “Normalization of Deviance”.
3. Describe lessons learned from recent sterile compounding assessments.
4. Recall recent self-performed risk assessment surveys and their relevance to an audit/inspection.
5. Identify gaps and discuss potential barriers to achieving compliance.

Upon completion of this activity, the technician will be able to:
1. Identify and expound on key regulations, as well as changes in the level of participation of state, federal, and regulatory bodies responsible for sterile compounding oversight.
2. Explain the definition and significance of the “Normalization of Deviance”.
3. Describe lessons learned from recent sterile compounding assessments.
4. Recall recent self-performed risk assessment surveys and their relevance to an audit/inspection.
5. Identify gaps and discuss potential barriers to achieving compliance.

Participants must view the entire presentation, successfully complete the learning assessment in Rx Learning Center with a minimum score of 80%, and complete the course evaluation prior to claiming credit and receiving 1 contact hour or 0.1 CEU of continuing pharmacy education (CPE) credit. To claim CPE credit, participants must have their NABP e-profile ID, birth month, and birth day. Continuing pharmacy education (CPE) credit will be reported directly to CPE Monitor.

SPECIAL NOTE: Learners have only 60 days from the date of completion to claim CPE credit.
