Overview / Abstract:

Learn effective methods of scheduling construction projects and assure construction managers that projects will be completed in a timely and cost-effective manner.

Time is money! The time needed for completion of a construction project and the money required to complete it are most often the major concern to all parties involved in a project. The owner may be interested in shortening each phase of the project or s/he may want to extend the project due to budget cuts, but there is a close relationship between the required cost and time of 5 any construction project. If the project has to be completed in a relatively short time or if its completion takes longer than the expected duration, then the cost will proportionally increase. Construction scheduling assures construction managers that projects will be completed in a timely and cost-effective manner.

This course includes a brief history of construction scheduling and introduces the basic concepts of scheduling techniques. Arrow and Precedence diagramming are explained in detail and the manner in which scheduling computations are made is presented. Project control techniques necessary to develop a good and effective project control plan are described. The course concludes with a chapter on resource leveling as well as how resources can be managed to improve productivity and efficiency in the construction project.
