Overview / Abstract:

This module focuses on the biomarkers that help to diagnose and monitor diabetes.

Objectives. At the conclusion of this course, the participant should be able to:

Discuss the role of insulin and glucagon in maintaining “normal” blood sugar levels.
List and describe the reasons for measuring the following:
Fasting blood sugar (FBS)
Hgb A1c
Continuous monitor blood sugar
Glucose excursions (fluctuations)
Glycated albumin and fructose amine
Define the value of tight glucose control.
