Overview / Abstract:

This module focuses on the natriuretic peptides, which includes the B-type Natriuretic Peptide (BNP) and the N-terminal-pro-BNP (NT-pro-BNP), and how they relate to the patient complaining of shortness of breath.

Objectives. At the conclusion of this course, the participant should be able to answer the following questions:

What are "BNP" and NT-pro-BNP?
What affects their levels?
What is the 'cut-off'?
How does renal function affect the results of these assays?
When should this test be used/ordered?
