Overview / Abstract: |
Conversations about abnormal test results in general and positive HPV tests in particular are challenging. Research shows that patients often come away from these discussions with misinformation, feeling stigmatized, fearful, and likely to be non-adherent with follow-up plans. The goal is for patients to come away from these conversations without unnecessary anxiety and with the accurate information they need to make informed decisions and follow through with next-steps. What are the best counseling strategies when discussing abnormal results and responding to a patient's concerns? This webinar reviews the available data about HPV and counseling strategies and provides a deep dive into best practices and clinical pearls for having these conversations effectively. An expert clinician and a patient demonstrate examples of how to discuss the science and apply shared decision-making techniques when counseling patients about abnormal screening and diagnostic tests. |
