Overview / Abstract:


This three-day Advanced Dental Hygiene Clinical Techniques Workshop is a comprehensive hands-on update on the latest, cutting edge clinical techniques. Conceived and conducted by renowned members of the USC faculty, this unique series of courses will provide close individualized instruction in advanced hand instrumentation, advanced ultrasonic instrumentation, and periodontal endoscopy.
An ideal in-depth experience for development of dental hygiene faculty members as well as private practitioners, this workshop will be the best post-graduate clinical continuing education experience for dental hygienists. It was designed for clinicians who want to keep abreast of the newest technologies, products and techniques. Whether you graduated last year or thirty years ago, do not miss this opportunity to greatly enhance your knowledge and become more current and confident with your clinical skills.

Advanced Periodontal Instrumentation - Lecture (July 6, 2018)

In the past five years significant developments in new high-tech devices, new hand instruments and ultrasonic tips have changed the way we practice. This presentation for dentists and dental hygienists provides detailed up-to-date information on new instruments and the latest techniques that will enhance your ability to recognize and treat patients with moderate to advanced periodontitis. Videos recorded with the dental endoscope will reveal the action of various ultrasonic tips and hand instruments on calculus.

Advanced Periodontal Instrumentation - Hands-On (July 7, 2018)

This practical laboratory course for dentists and dental hygienists is designed to enhance your periodontal instrumentation, enabling you to treat patients with greater skill and confidence. This intensive hands-on experience features continuous TV demonstration by Anna Pattison plus a team of experienced instructors attentive to individualized instruction.

Ultrasonics - Lecture & Lab (July 8, 2018, am)

This lecture and hands-on laboratory course for dentists and dental hygienists on ultrasonic equipment and techniques will allow you to use and evaluate seven different magnetostrictive and piezoelectric ultrasonic units with hands on instruction.

The differences between magnostrictive and piezoelectric technology.
Various ultrasonic unit designs and evaluate handle ergonomics.
Various tip designs and select tips to best suit the needs of different types of patients.
Different ultrasonic strokes and determine which techniques are most effective for different types of deposits using artificial deposits on typodonts.
Perioscopy - Lecture & Lab (July 8, 2018, pm)

This lecture and hands-on laboratory course for dentists and dental hygienists on periodontal endoscopy (perioscopy) describes how the use of the dental endoscope can enhance your ability to perform periodontal instrumentation with a new understanding and a renewed vision for your profession.

Interpret basic hard tissue anatomy with the endoscope - including furcas.
Interpret images of soft tissues, plaque, calculus and caries.
Gain hands on experience with the endoscope to see deposits invisible to the eye.
Experience two-handed instrumentation on typodonts with the dental endoscope.
