Managing Psoriatic Arthritis to Improve Patient Outcomes

Access Activity

Overview / Abstract:

Many psoriatic arthritis (PsA) patients are not receiving medical treatment for their condition, even though they experience a poor quality of life due to the symptoms of PsA. Reasons for this undertreatment include physicians underestimating the systemic nature and psychosocial impact of PsA, a lack of physician knowledge of the current treatment goals and recommendations, and a lack of patient-centered approaches to manage PsA.

A recent survey of rheumatologists revealed that only 23% of respondents considered themselves “very knowledgeable” on the evidence-based management of PsA. The goal of this educational initiative is to increase rheumatologists’ abilities to facilitate shared decision-making with patients, engage the care team, and establish a treatment regimen that each patient understands and is willing and able to follow. Tools and resources will be provided to improve patient support and satisfaction with their disease management, while also enhancing patient adherence to treatment.

Educational Objectives - At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

- Recognize the significant burden of psoriatic arthritis on patients and assess disease severity and therapeutic response to establish measurable treatment goals and improve patient outcomes

- Explain the latest clinical data on recently approved and emerging therapies for PsA to achieve treatment goals and minimize complications

- Apply a patient-centered approach to management that prioritizes patient preferences and QoL and effectively communicates treatment plans to improve adherence and provide timely follow-up
