Compare and contrast the evidence for and against the medical use of all substances discussed with special emphasis on marijuana.
List the commonly used indications for medical marijuana.
Discuss how medical marijuana is dosed.
List the commonly encountered restrictions to the use of medical marijuana.
Describe the rational used for promoting the recreational use of marijuana.
Describe the abuse and addictive potential of all substances discussed.
Discuss the scope of the abuse problem with all substances discussed.
List the commonly encountered and potential serious adverse effects/ toxicities associated with all substances discussed.
Describe the criteria use for determining where a drug is scheduled.
Describe the physiological and subjective effects of all substances discussed Substances to be discussed: Marijuana (cannabis, THC), Heroin (diacetylmorphine), LSD (Lysergic acid diethylamide), Mescaline (Peyote), MDMA (3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine or “ecstasy”), GHB (gamma-hydroxybutyric acid), Ecstasy (MDMA or 3,4-Methylenedioxymethamphetamine), Psilocybin, Methaqualone (Quaalude), Khat (Cathinone), Bath Salts (3,4-methylenedioxypyrovalerone or MDPV).
