Non-Sterile Compounding 2018 Update - Part 2: Best Practices and Good Documentation Practices

Access Activity

Overview / Abstract:

This activity has been updated and renewed with a new ACPE number for participants to complete beginning July 2, 2018.

Compounding is an integral part of pharmacy practice and is essential to the provision of healthcare. In response to numerous tragic patient outcomes, a result of the lack of attention to the main principles of USP 795, the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy has implemented new credit requirements for those pharmacists engaging in or overseeing complex non-sterile compounding. Both experienced and new pharmacists working in this area need to have a comprehensive understanding of the established guidelines and procedures for proper and safe compounding. Part 2 of this course will go over best practices to ensure the preparation of quality non-sterile compounds.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, the participant should be able to:
Develop trainings and validations for all compounding personnel
Develop a master formulation for a non-sterile compounded preparation
Identify appropriate methods for determining a BUD for a non-sterile compounded preparation
Explain appropriate quality control procedures for completed non-sterile preparations
