Sterile Compounding: Product Sterility Testing & Final Release Checks of CSPs - 2018 Update

Access Activity

Overview / Abstract:

This activity has been updated and renewed with a new ACPE number for participants to complete beginning August 1, 2018.

Based on the previous outcomes from the NECC and the MA Board of Pharmacy's decision to increase Continuing Education Credits in the compounding area of pharmacy practice, this course hopes to provide insight in the importance of Sterile Compounding based on USP . Currently many pharmacies follow the guidelines, however each institution may be at a different point in updating their facilities and practices to follow and ensure the best practices and outcomes for their patients. The hope is to bring awareness to one's current practice, to validate the positive procedures and help identify where one is lacking. In addition, to help correct problems an institution may have had and prevent future errors. This course will provide useful information in the form of important information, quizzes and take home points to foster further discussions at one's practice site.

Learning Objectives
-Upon completion of this activity, the participant should be able to:
-Determine CSP Risk Levels & their BUD
-List types of potential CSP contamination
-Recognize the differences between current and newly proposed standards
-Explain the need and process for end date stability
-Describe how to check the final CSPs for release
