Access Activity

Overview / Abstract:

This course is designed to provide continuing education for Florida Nurses and Nurse Practitioners. It fulfills the continuing education requirement for those licensed in the state of Florida.

It is an employer responsibility to address any behaviors or situations that compromise workplace safety. The immediate manager or supervisor is generally assigned this responsibility. The manager or supervisor must consider job duties and job expectations and then document any deviations. Any gap between expected job performance and observed or reported job performance is a concern that must be addressed. Aside from addressing specific performance
concerns, managers and supervisors must consider questions related to both timing and safety of the job performance

At the completion of this course, the learner should be able to:
-Define fitness for duty in the healthcare workplace.
-Recognize the impact of poor job performance and substance use on quality care and overall safety.
-Review specific indicators of poor job performance related to substance use, mental and emotional conditions, physical compromise and cognitive decline.
-Develop strategies to promote safety and provide assistance to an unsafe healthcare employee.
-Explain how the Intervention Project for Nurses (IPN) and the --Professional Resources Network (PRN) in Florida assist healthcare professionals identified as unsafe practitioners.

In order to receive credit, participants should read the entire downloadable monograph. Once you have read the monograph, you will continue to the online self-assessment test and evaluation.
