Overview / Abstract: |
Oncology nursing professionals play a key role in the care of patients receiving chemotherapy. However, to do so, they require access to the most recent clinical information and guidance, the latest developments in CINV therapy, and expanded knowledge of CINV pathophysiology. In addition, oncology nursing professionals need continuing education focused on appropriate screening in order to better identify patients at risk of CINV before chemotherapy begins and develop the skills to undertake a comprehensive assessment of CINV once treatment has been initiated. Studies have reported that patients’ needs are more fully met and their symptoms are better addressed when oncology nurses take a lead role in CINV management.
