Overview / Abstract: |
Hereditary angioedema (HAE) is a rare genetic disease which causes sporadic swelling in the face, neck, limbs, and abdomen. The frequency, severity, and character of attacks can vary widely, and patients with HAE frequently have delayed diagnoses or are misdiagnosed. Effective targeted agents and current evidence-based recommendations on their use are often not considered. Regular monitoring of attacks is necessary to ensure proper care, but is often omitted. This activity will improve the management of patients with HAE by reviewing current guidelines for the diagnosis of HAE, informing clinicians about the safety and efficacy of approved HAE therapies and recommendations for their use, and outlining the importance of using patient-reporting instruments in monitoring the frequency and severity of HAE episodes and patient quality of life. |
