Overview / Abstract: |
Conference overview: Chronic wounds are exceedingly common, painful, frequently recurrent and associated with high mortality. In outpatient care, clinicians often rely upon their own experience when approaching these wounds. A comprehensive overview of evidence-based management and treatment of chronic wounds is required to facilitate proper decision-making and healing. The increase in wound prevalence forces coordinated care across a variety of disciplines. Additionally, therapies and dressings differ in appropriateness and availability. During care transitions, the severity and complexity of a patient’s wound shouldn’t be the only consideration — access to resources, treatment modalities and the patient’s overall health need to be evaluated to maintain continuous care. Increasing resistance to antibiotics remains an urgent challenge with these injuries in primary care. Wound Care Update will explore the latest information regarding wound etiologies, resulting in strengthened differential diagnoses and optimized outcomes. Experts in physical therapy, infectious disease and disciplines integral to wound care will offer interactive breakouts, demonstrations and case presentations covering basic to advanced approaches.
