Overview / Abstract: |
When one hears the term “PTSD", one often thinks of military personnel who have served in combat. However, PTSD is a disorder of reactivity to all types of traumatic events—not just combat, and exposure to trauma is a common occurrence (60% of men and 51% of women are exposed to trauma in the US). Community healthcare professionals are often the first members of the care team who are in touch with people who experience traumatic events. Therefore, they need to develop expertise identifying the risk factors for and signs of PTSD in those who experience traumatic situations so they can help them begin the path to healing. |
