Diseases Associated with Pulmonary Fibrosis: What Do We Currently Know?

Access Activity

Overview / Abstract:

Fibrotic processes occur in many diseases. Advances in genetic, molecular, and cellular research are hinting at the pathophysiology behind their development and options for new therapeutic interventions and strategies. In this podcast, Dr. Zibrak reviews what is currently known about fibrosis in interstitial lung disease and current thinking relative to the role of antifibrotic therapy in patients with IPF and SSc-ILD.

What type of diseases lead to, or have a complication of pulmonary fibrosis?
Are there well-studied diseases in which fibrotic pathologies have been well-described?
What is the current thinking relative to the role of antifibrotic therapy in patients with IPF and SSc-ILD?

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

Describe the diseases associated with pulmonary fibrosis.
Explain the current understanding of the pathophysiological processes leading to the development of fibrosis.
Review current evidence supporting the use of antifibrotic therapy in patients with IPF.
