Best of ACTHIV: Real World HIV Liver Disease (HCV) Cases

Overview / Abstract:

This session was voted by attendees and the ACTHIV conference planning committee as one of the “Best of ACTHIV”. The 13th Annual American Conference for the Treatment of HIV (ACTHIV) was held April 11-13, 2019 in Miami, FL.

At the completion of this educational activity, participants will:
1. Analyze the implications of timing of antiretroviral (ARV) exposure on birth defect risk.
2. Describe the results of the Botswana Tsepamo birth surveillance study related to preconception dolutegravir (DTG) use and neural tube defects (NTD) and what they mean for practice in the U.S.
3. Appraise the importance of prospective reporting of antiretroviral drug exposure in pregnancy to the Antiretroviral Pregnancy Registry.

Dr. Falade-Nwulia is an Assistant Professor at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She has focused her clinical pursuits on care of HIV and HCV infected patients and educating clinicians and public health practitioners about STDs, HIV, and hepatitis. She previously served as Medical Director of the Baltimore City Health Department Sexually Transmitted Diseases Clinic based HIV care programs until 2015 and also developed and implemented the Baltimore City Health Department hepatitis C testing, linkage to care and treatment programs, establishing the Baltimore City Health Department as a national leader in health department population hepatitis C control programs.
