The Right Drugs at the Right Time: The Cost-Savings Case for Tying PAH Formulary Protocols to Best Available Clinical Evidence

Access Activity

Overview / Abstract:

Our expert faculty, comprised of a managed care pharmacist and pulmonologist specializing in PAH, review recent guideline recommendations and strategies for selecting appropriate therapy, including initial combination regimens, as well as financial considerations based on managed care pharmacy protocols.

Therapeutic selection and management in PAH are intertwined with differential diagnostics, disease classification, and risk stratification. If the wrong disease classification/risk stratification is made at the incorrect time, inappropriate therapy is often offered, resulting in poor clinical outcomes. Managed care pharmacists must be prepared to update formularies and related dispensing/management protocols to improve outcomes and manage the high costs associated with unnecessary hospitalizations.
