Despite recognition of underfeeding in hospital settings and its consequences, a substantial number of hospitalized patients can be characterized as malnourished. In this roundtable discussion, Canadian and US-based faculty discuss diagnostic criteria for malnutrition, available and emerging lipid emulsion products and their influence on inflammation and ensuring adequate protein delivery for optimal nutrition support.
