From Head and Shoulders to Knees and Toes: An Orthopedic Update for Primary Care

Access Activity

Overview / Abstract:

Conference Overview:
Primary care clinicians are often the first point of contact in the health care system and play a major role in helping patients manage musculoskeletal conditions. Having up-to-date knowledge, practice guidelines and medical skills empowers primary care clinicians to provide accessible, cost-effective care and improve patient outcomes.

From Head and Shoulders to Knees and Toes: An Orthopedic Update for Primary Care offers practical approaches to orthopedic problems and addresses the newest diagnostic and therapeutic techniques. The conference features new topics on acute injuries and chronic conditions, musculoskeletal pain, fracture and injury pearls, quick consults, pediatrics, and special sessions on “concussion” and “bone health.”

Customized learning is possible by attending hands-on basic and advanced examination sessions, splinting workshops and optional lunch-and-learn sessions. Back by popular demand are “X-ray Review and Unknowns” and “Learning Stations.” Time for questions and direct interaction with faculty will be available.

Educational Objectives:
Following this learning activity, participants will be able to:
- Discuss the evaluation and management protocols of upper- and lower-extremity injuries and other acute and chronic conditions
- Evaluate treatment options for common orthopedic conditions
- Apply strategies to competently perform shoulder, hand, wrist, knee, foot and ankle examinations, administer injections and splint the upper- and lower-extremities
