Tobacco use is the leading cause of preventable disease and is frequently used by many adults and youth in the United States. Common therapies used to treat tobacco dependence are over the counter products not needing a prescription. These products while safe and effective, are best if used appropriately. Pharmacist play a key role ensuring these products are used safely and effectively to help patient quit tobacco use. This course will provide patient cases where the viewer will have to recommend appropriate treatment regimen including dosing, precautions, adverse effects and monitoring for smoking cessation. Learning Objectives Identify the various factors that must be evaluated prior to recommending smoking cessation therapy to a patient Differentiate between the various treatment options for smoking cessation Recommend an appropriate treatment regimen for smoking cessation when provided with a patient case, considering dosing, precautions, adverse effects and monitoring for each therapy. |
