New & Old Drugs: Best Choices

Access Activity

Overview / Abstract:

Conference Overview:
According to the CDC, nearly half of Americans—and over three-fourths of adults aged 65 and older— live with a chronic condition that requires medication therapy. Medication use among younger adults and children is also increasing, with 30 percent of children under 18 taking at least one regular medication for conditions such as ADHD, allergies, asthma, diabetes or depression. Many of these drugs are prescribed in primary care as the typical entry point into the medical system for patients.

Medications play a critical role in primary care practice and their effective management is essential to patient safety and quality care. Identifying strategies for appropriate drug therapies requires clinicians to continually review the benefits, interactions, risks and side effects of over-the-counter and prescription drugs. Staying abreast of emerging pharmaceutical advancements helps clinicians reduce medication errors and their resulting costs.

New & Old Drugs: Best Choices features a comprehensive review of therapeutic agents to treat common medical conditions. The format includes practical case-based lectures, panel discussions and time for dialogue with the presenters.
