Overview / Abstract: |
Target Audience This activity is designed to meet the needs of physicians, physician assistants, pharmacists, registered nurses, nurse practitioners, advance practice registered nurses, and registered dietitians with an interest in lipid management. Program Overview Despite the fact that cardiovascular outcome studies involving statins have demonstrated significant cardiovascular event reduction among patients at high risk and have led to statins becoming the gold standard in cardiovascular care, numerous patient populations still remain at heightened risk for cardiovascular events. These populations include patients with genetic conditions, patients who experience inadequate reduction in LCL-C from statin therapy, and those patients who are not able to tolerate statins at all. Clinicians face many questions in their day-to-day practice: What do the guidelines recommend? Is there new clinical trial data or real-world evidence that may change the recommended approach with my patients who report statin side effects? Are there special cases that allow for a different step-therapy approach? How can I help my patients tolerate their statins? Are there adherence steps I am missing with my statin intolerant patients? During this activity, originally recorded at the NLA's 2020 Spring Clinical Lipid Update in Denver, experts will utilize case studies to discuss practical and team-based approaches to improving outcomes in this patient population. Learning Objectives Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to: Summarize the evidence-based recommendations for current and emerging non-statin therapeutic interventions. |
