Best Practices in NTM-PD: A Patient-Centered Approach to Diagnosis, Treatment and Improved Adherence

Pulmonologists, infectious disease physicians, primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants

Program Overview

Nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) is a chronic, progressive illness fraught with long treatments and severe side effects. The majority of NTMpatients who have completed treatment can get it again. Research is emerging that may impact best practices in managing and treating patients with NTMand new American Thoracic Society (ATS)/Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) guidelines. In this program, guideline-based treatment, personalized treatment selection for patients, and managing adverse events and improving patient adherence are discussed using video presentation of challenging cases.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

Employ a guideline-based best practice approach to an early and accurate diagnosis of NTM
Apply patient-centered communication strategies regarding diagnosis, ongoing management, and treatment goals to manage patient expectations
Implement guideline-based strategies to manage adverse events and improve patient adherence
