Practical Questions in the Diagnosis and Management of Patients With MAC

Access Activity

Overview / Abstract:

Target Audience
This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of pulmonologists, infectious disease specialists, and other health care providers who manage patients with NTMlung disease.

Program Overview
Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) is the most common type of nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) lung disease. Treatment of NTMis challenging and treatment options are limited. Clinicians need to be alert to available therapeutic options and their limitations, as well as potential therapeutic options as they arise, and how and when they should be used most effectively. Clinicians must become familiar with the new ATS/ERS/ESCMID/IDSA Clinical Practice Guidelines that were released in July 2020 to help guide the treatment of NTM.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

Discuss evidence based treatment strategies in light of the availability of newer inhaled treatment options (based on updated guidelines, if applicable)
Analyze treatment of adverse events, adherence, and completion to improve treatment outcomes
Work in a multidisciplinary team to develop effective individualized treatment plans for patients with NTM
