Community Practice Connections™: HPV: Points of Prevention in Primary Care

Access Activity

Overview / Abstract:

Target Audience
This educational activity is directed toward family practice providers who treat patients who are candidates for HPV vaccination. Physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, pharmacists, and other health care professionals interested in HPV vaccination are invited to participate.

Activity Overview
Human papillomavirus (HPV) is responsible for more than 40,000 cases of cancer in the United States annually. Though HPV vaccines have been available for approximately 15 years, below-target vaccination rates for teens and recently expanded recommendations for adults create unmet needs in primary care. This Community Practice Connections™ program provides an in-depth review of some of the key highlights from an online virtual symposium held in October 2020. This unique and engaging multimedia activity is ideal for the community-based clinician and focuses on the practical aspects of providing HPV vaccination, putting recent clinical trial data into clinical context. The program is designed for those who did not attend the virtual meeting and to help reinforce learnings for those who did.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

Review recommendations for HPV vaccination with patients and caregivers to increase informed decision-making
Identify appropriate candidates for HPV vaccination, including the recently expanded group of patients aged 27 to 45 years
Counsel patients and caregivers on the risks and benefits of HPV vaccination to reduce barriers to administration
Discuss possible societal stigmas associated with HPV vaccination to improve vaccination confidence
