Inadequate pain relief despite current treatments is one of the most troubling aspects of osteoarthritis (OA), and is responsible for the majority of health care visits in patients with OA. Additional concerns about the risks of long-term NSAID and opiate use contribute to unmet treatment needs. It is therefore necessary for clinicians to recognize the role of novel targets for pain management, particularly nerve growth factor, and to evaluate the efficacy and safety of novel mechanisms of action for pain management. The second installment of this CME Outfitters Snack series on improving care and outcomes in OA will evaluate emerging treatments in order to address the unmet needs of current OA therapies. - Learning Objectives - At the end of this CE activity, participants should be able to: |
