Overview / Abstract: |
Although IBD is more common in non-Hispanic Whites compared to other racial groups, there is a disproportionately higher ratio of hospitalizations, surgery, and IBD-related mortality among non-Hispanic African Americans compared with other racial groups. This fact, in addition to the rising prevalence of IBD in North America and the estimate that 54% of the U.S. population will be comprised of minority populations by 2050, underscores the need for high-quality treatment available to racial and ethnic minority groups.
