Therapy Tidbits – Spring 2021 is a 1-hour online continuing education (CE) course comprised of select articles from the Winter 2021 issue of The National Psychologist, a private, independent, quarterly newspaper intended to keep psychologists informed about practice issues. The articles included in this course are: Congress Throws a Wrench in Medicare Telehealth Rules – Identifies Section 123 of the Consolidated Appropriations Act and explains the impact this bill will have on telehealth provision. Kahler v. Kansas: So, What Else is New? – Provides an historical overview of the ‘not guilty by reason of insanity’ defense. FAA Will Skip Latest Version of MMPI – Discusses the changes between the original MMPI test and subsequent revisions. Contact with Nature Buffers Effects of COVID Lockdown – Describes the effects of lockdown and isolation on older adults and highlights the positive impact interacting with nature has in reducing stress and lowering the risk of infection and from COVID-19. Should Therapist Locator Systems offer a BAA? – Stresses the importance of having a business associate agreement (BAA) with therapist locator sites to protect patients from possible security and privacy breaches. Life During Wartime: The Coronavirus Psychology – Shares a view of the Coronavirus as an enemy and compares the ways in which war affects people to ways in which COVID affects people. Psychotherapists Should Find Empathy When Ideas About COVID-19 Safety Vary – Considers the values, cultures and norms of people living in rural communities and attempts to surmise how these influence attitudes regarding safety protocols during COVID. Imposter Syndrome Can Limit Experiences – Explains the adverse effects of Imposter Syndrome and offers strategies to help psychology students move past these insecurities. (Mental Health) Stigma-Inducing Barriers Must Be Removed for Law Students – Summarizes how the events of 2020 acted as an accelerant to the behavioral health problems experienced by law students.
