It’s Getting Hot in Here: The Unaddressed Problems of Vasomotor Symptoms During Menopause

Overview / Abstract:

TARGET AUDIENCE:
This activity is intended for OB/GYN’s, endocrinologists and internists who treat menopausal women.
PROGRAM OVERVIEW:
In three brief video segments and interactive learning moments, expert faculty provide practical guidance for managing and treating menopausal vasomotor symptoms. Discussion covers gaps in care, guideline recommendations, a novel mechanism for controlling vasomotor symptoms, and strategies to communicate with patients. Hear first-hand testimonials from patients to learn more about how vasomotor symptoms impact their quality of life.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
• Demonstrate increased knowledge and awareness about the long-term vasomotor symptoms that women experience in menopause and the potential to have a negative influence on quality of life.
• Explain how the neurokinin (NK) receptor pathway is believed to be involved in the etiology of hot flashes in menopausal women.
• Describe resources available for educating patients about therapies for menopause and strategies for encouraging women to make informed decisions about managing the vasomotor symptoms of menopause.
