Mitigating Migraine: Addressing Patients’ Unmet Needs and Optimizing Treatment Plans

Access Activity

Overview / Abstract:

TARGET AUDIENCE:
This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of primary care osteopathic clinicians. It may also be of benefit to other healthcare providers (HCPs) who are involved in the management of patients with migraine.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW:
The lack of optimal migraine care negatively affects quality of life and productivity for those with migraine and presents an economic burden for society. Primary care clinicians, including osteopathic physicians, are at the forefront of migraine care but need education to be able to diagnose migraine earlier so that patients receive appropriate migraine-specific therapy. They also need education surrounding clinical application of currently available acute therapy for migraine. New and emerging agents soon to be available offer promise for patients who are not responsive to or are intolerant of existing therapies; clinicians who manage migraine need up-to-date information on efficacy, safety, and the role of these new agents in migraine therapy, as well as their optimal clinical use.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
Upon proper completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
• Identify patients with migraine who need acute therapy
• Formulate plans to treat acute migraine based on mechanism of action, efficacy, and safety concerns
• Access safety, efficacy, and patient-reported outcomes data for new acute migraine therapies
