Influenza in the House: Diagnosis, Treatment, and Prophylaxis

Access Activity

Overview / Abstract:

Target Audience

The intended audience for this activity is nurse practitioners and other health care professionals involved in the management of patients with influenza.

Program Overview

Although the impact of influenza varies, it places a substantial burden on the health of people in the United States each year. With COVID-19 complicating influenza management, health care providers need better strategies for preventing, diagnosing, and treating influenza. Antivirals with different targets and mechanisms of action provide multiple therapeutic options and hold promise for improving treatment effectiveness. Influenza prophylaxis is also a very important component of management, yet providers are not adequately educated about it. In this continuing education activity, expert clinicians will discuss optimal ways to diagnose and manage influenza during the end stages of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:
Differentially diagnose influenza early to optimize patient management and outcomes.
Select antiviral treatment for influenza based upon evidence of safety, efficacy, and ability to aid in postexposure prophylaxis
